(Jeremiah 1:5) and (Isaiah 45:3)

“And the word of the Lord came……..

“The Lord call thee………..

What is in a name?

A name is THAT, by which a person, place, animal or a thing, is KNOWN, SPOKEN OF, and SPOKEN TO. It is a LABEL or DESIGNATION that sets one person APART from another.

Ancient biblical people were very conscious of the meaning of names, so the y formed personal names from words that had their own meanings. They believed that there was a vital connection between the name and the person it identified.

In effect, a name represented the NATURE and DESTINY of that person.

May I ask you some questions? Sir, Ma, what is your name? What do they call you? 20 Cent? Calamity? Sorrow?

What do you answer to? Bad boy? Rude boy? No wonder! Each time you answer to THAT NAME, you are calling forth your destiny. Now if you will not take any other thing from this message, make sure you take this one: YOUR NAME IS YOUR LINK WITH YOUR DESTINY.

Family Abram was subjected to over 75 years of wandering, and impossibilities, but when LAUGHTER arrived… I am talking about the son called ISAAC which means LAUGHTER, everything changed.

The Lord began to fill their mouths with laughter, and they moved from little to LARGE, from a small room to a LARGE HOUSE, and from obscurity to PROMINENCE. ALL that seemed impossible, suddenly became POSSIBLE, REALISTIC, and FEASIBLE. Who am I talking to?

What’s in a name? Names are so powerful that God cannot DESPISE it. It is so important that God will not change a thing without first referring to it.

‘And the Lord God appeared to Abram and said unto him… thy name shall no longer be called Abram, but Abraham, for a father of nations I have made thee’ (Gen 17: 1-5)

God had to change his name so as to be able to CHANGE his DESTINY, and suddenly BARREN Abraham became a father of a multitude.

Jacob was named supplanter. He grew up living out his name, he became a cheat, a con man, a trickster, and a fraud. But when God decided to TIE his destiny to that of his chosen people, God had to do a name change for him. ‘Thy name shall not anymore be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name’ (Gen 35:10)

Israel means ‘prince with people’

Ask yourself, what names do I answer to that are affecting my life?, Oh maybe it is even a NICK of A NAME, get rid of it!

‘And Jabez called on the Lord’ (1 Chr 4:10)

Jabez means ‘He makes sorrow!’ What a name! And all of his life he answered to it, he lived up to it, until it dawned on him. Jabez is the reason I cant hold down a job, it is the reason I cant get a life, it is the reason why everything I touch fails, it is the reason every good relationship I develop dies. Jabez. So he called upon the Lord to change his name for him, and the Lord heard and enlarged his coasts.

Time will not permit me to talk about Saul of Tarsus who took up a Greek name Paul in order to fulfil his purpose, taking the gospel to the gentiles. Simeon, (unstable) whose name the Lord changed to Peter (the rock) ‘And upon this rock I will build my church’ (Matt 16:18)

‘Then the word of the Lord came, saying, before I formed thee I knew thee’

“And the Lord call thee by name”

There is a name which God has tied to your destiny. Have you found out the name? Have you allowed him to call you that name?

Maybe that is why you have been waiting for it to happen ever since.

‘Moses came and spoke all the words…. He, and HOSHEA the son of Nun’ (Deut 32:44)

You see, Hoshea means salvation. But when God was ready for him to fulfil his call, HE CALLED HIM BY NAME. Hoshea became JOSHUA, meaning HE WILL SAVE.

Joshua is a Hebrew name, which in Greek means Jesus. Now Jesus has many names, too many to be counted. JOSHUA.

Suddenly Joshua began to stand out among his peers. 12 of them went out as Lieutenants, he returned a Major General. He started as a servant of a prophet, and ended up a leader of the nation.

A legendary warrior, a great leader, a brilliant military strategist, and a man of extraordinary faith.

Joshua fought and defeated Amalek at Rephidim, at his command Jericho fell down flat, he commanded the sun not to go down, and it obeyed him. Under him Israel had unprecedented success, and he became one of ONLY two adults who experienced Egypt, and lived to enter the promised land, not even Moses had that honour. Joshua entered the PROMISED LAND.

He not only entered, he LED them in as Commander in Chief.

‘HE WILL SAVE’ delivered on the promise of his name.

Why don’t you join me as I welcome my son,

Joshua (He will save), Oluwadamilohun (The lord has answered me), Oluwamayomikun (The Lord has completed my joy), Toluwanimi (I am the Lord’s), Olulana (He has cleared the way), Oluwatayo (The Lord is worthy to be praised), Olalekan (There is an addition of wealth), Olanrewaju (My wealth goes on continually), Anuoluwapo (The lord’s mercy is abundant), Oluwaseun (The Lord has done it well), Oluwatimilehin (The Lord has helped me and supported me). Omololu ( The Son who is a king), Ayinla (One who will continually have cause to praise God), Oluwagbewasoke (The Lord has lifted us up), Olamiposi (My wealth continues to increase), Afopefolwa (We give God the praise), Temiloluwa (The Lord is mine) into the world. May he fulfil his destiny, and live out his names, amen.
