CAN ANTONIO CONTE SNEAK BEHIND PEP AND JOSE? As all the cameras continue to converge in Manchester, Antonio Conte continues to work without the lights and pressure at the bridge. Chelsea could be the surprise ace in the pack, as media attention continues to shift towards Old Trafford and the Etihad. What Conte has quickly done is establish a back 5/6 players who are fit, efficient, dogged and disciplined while unleashing a front 4/5 players who are efficient and play with flair. Conte’s unit are winning games and getting the points without media glare and he is building a team of 14/15 players with his starting eleven plus Pedro, Batshuayi, Moses and Cesc and he is taking no prisoners on his way (Even Cesc is finding himself on the bench on a regular basis and...

“You were running well. Who hindered you?”  (Gal 5:7) Here we see Apostle Paul writing to the church in Galatia, years after he had converted the community to Christianity. His letter was not of praise or adulation, but of trepidation and concern, because the work he had started several years before was now in danger of capitulating. Other missionaries had arrived after him, teaching different doctrines to what Paul taught them and causing severe division and strife in the community. Suddenly, those who started well were now in danger of not ending well.   THOUGHTS Isn’t it amazing how people start well in their careers and business, only to fall into a rot and begin a steady decline? Have you seen a seemingly happy marriage, floundering and prospering...

COMICAL LIVERPOOL That the Manchester teams won again on day 2 of the EPL is no surprise. That Arsenal drew with Leicester does not surprise me either, neither does Chelsea’s win against Watford, even though it was a tough nut to crack for Conte. What surprises me is how Jurgen Klopp thinks he does not have a problem at the heart of his defence and what surprised me was how his defence parted like the Red Sea on both occasions for Burnley at the weekend. Seven players around the box and yet Liverpool conceded their first goal to Vokes and If the first was hilarious, the second was comical, allowing a player to travel 60 yards to your goal as a precursor to conceding a goal is not the sort of thing you wish to see if you’re dreaming of a title challenge. I...

GAME ON! Nineteen games in the 1st week of the Premiership and if I told you I know who would be winning the Premiership, I’d either be guessing or being untrue. So who would be the greatest among the greats, come end of season?   KLOPP Jurgen Klopp’s win at the Emirates – a direct title contender – was the most impressive statement on the first day. 4-1 up at some point and I really feared the worst for Arsenal, but then Klopp’s boys quickly reminded us why Liverpool FC are pretenders to the throne and are yet to win the Premier League in a long time. What they possess in fire power and speed upfront, they lack in defence. As Sadio Mane, Coutinho, Lallana, Wijnaldum, Origi and the others tore Arsenal to shreds at the back, the back line of...

“And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to David, “You will not come in here, but the blind and the lame will ward you off” 2 Sam 5: 6   “The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You will not come in here.” ……  David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David. David said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall be chief and commander.” 1 Chr 11: 4-6     So David was in dire straits. He had just been anointed King of Israel and needed a central location to live as King. He chose Jebus to live in, but no sooner had he arrived when he was met with hostility at the gates, ‘you will not come in here’   THOUGHTS: Have you ever wanted...
